Process Analytics (PA) is a part of the Biologics DS MST organization and provides analytical support to lab scale studies of commercial biopharmaceutical drug substance in our Devens, MA facility, as well as programs throughout the network.
PA performs in-process tests for DS and DP characterization, excipient testing and detection of impurities.
The Principal Scientist PA is expected to join the team with strong analytical technical expertise on physical chemical characterization assays (glycan analysis, liquid chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis).
The successful candidate will mentor junior scientists to perform analytical testing and method improvement activities.
The role is expected to grow into a leadership role within PA team to drive various method improvement activities, potentially manage operation of in-process testing and be one of the key POCs for stakeholders in Bioprocess Technology (BPT), Analytical Sciences and Technology (AST), and other teams across the BMS biologics network.
The position reports to the Senior Principal Scientist Process Analytics.
Key Responsibilities Be our SME for several key assays including but not limited to N Glycan analysis, Capillary Electrophoresis (CE-SDS, iCIEF), ELISAs, excipients, compendial testing.
Manage a team of analytical scientists, guide direct reports on project and lab activities, and create career development objectives Train, Mentor and Oversee junior scientists to deliver timely and quality analytical work Potentially manage operation of analytical testing of in-process samples in support of MS&T (DS upstream, DS downstream and DP) lab scale studies; Maintain and track testing schedules.
Play a key role in PA laboratory operations - ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards (5S), instrument maintenance, data management/analysis, etc.
Understand process studies and drive decisions on analytical testing plan for upstream/downstream process studies, review and approve analytical protocols.
Function as POC for Bioprocess Technology (MST), AST and QC regarding analytical methods and performance Lead method improvement activities as well as PAT projects Lead tech transfer, method qualification and GMP testing Qualifications & Experience PhD in STEM field with 4
years of experience, MS in stem field with 6
years of experience, BSc in STEM field with 9
years of experience (e.
